The Facts:

1 in every 3 sexually active teens will get pregnant – 1 in 6 will give birth.

In Guilford County in 2009 (most recent data):

  • 19 girls age 10-14 became pregnant
  • 897 girls age 15-19 became pregnant

Teen childbearing costs the US taxpayers an estimated $10.9 billion annually.

Teens are bombarded with sexual messages every day. Movies, television, the internet, and music provide youth with (mis) information about sex and relationships.

Teen pregnancy is preventable!  The Centers for Disease Control has named adolescent pregnancy one of the 6 “winnable battles” in health promotion.

What You Can Do:

Get involved, make a difference, be proactive, and talk with the teens in your life. They want your advice. They need your support.
