Guilford Coalition on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (GCAPP) is a local, countywide membership organization that focuses on the issues of adolescent pregnancy, pregnancy prevention and adolescent parenting. Members include educators, healthcare providers, human service providers, faith based organization representatives, program administrators, policy-makers, parents and adolescents from the community.
Vision
We envision a community where all youth have access to resources and feel empowered to make decisions about sexual and reproductive health.
Mission
The Guilford Coalition on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (GCAPP) exists to increase community awareness and involvement in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy by discovering practical solutions, building alliances, and strengthening Guilford County’s social and economic future.
History
Like many counties, Guilford has numerous agencies and programs dedicated to the well being of our children. GCAPP provides a forum for teen advocates to come together to communicate with one another and work in a unified effort. This forum has existed in Guilford County for nearly 20 years in various capacities. In that time, we have grown to be seen as an active, respected and successful organization.
It was in the mid-1990’s, after a short period of inactivity, that GCAPP became incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization. A merger in 2001 brought the Greensboro and High Point coalitions, who had previously functioned separately, together in their efforts to reduce teen pregnancy for all of Guilford County. GCAPP’s members are purposefully recruited to include broad representation of individuals from youth service agencies of Guilford County, as well as representation from all sectors of the community including individuals from diverse races; medical, school, and business backgrounds; and for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Members must be committed to contributing to the development and success of GCAPP projects through their ongoing support, attendance and active participation in meetings and other GCAPP functions. Talents of our members include expertise in the areas of: teen pregnancy, teen pregnancy prevention, direct services to teens, health care, family planning, evaluation, social work, education, finance, collaboration and program implementation.
